Are you holding summertime in your hands?
Sweet, sticky watermelon? Marshmallow roasting sticks? Maybe you held sparklers earlier this month? And maybe holding summer in your hands means tossing a Frisbee for your dog or a baseball to your kids. Perhaps you’re holding a good book, a glass of sweet tea, and the side of a hammock! Ahhhhh.
For me, holding summer in my hands usually involves a bowl of potato salad or a gourmet burger made with organic ground beef raised by my husband and grilled over a flame. Mmmmm. Picnics, barbecues, summer meals served up on a picnic table! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
Have you read the book The Turquoise Table? It’s a wonderful story of one mother’s desire to get to know her neighbors. Author, Kristin Schell, bought a simple picnic table, painted it turquoise, and placed it in her front yard. She then began serving her family dinners there, and inviting neighbors to join in. Soon it became a gathering place for young and old alike, a place for friends to meet and connect. It’s a great book, full of insight and fun recipes!
Though I’ve never painted a picnic table turquoise, I’ve spent my adult life creating meals and memories for my kids and our friends. (And friends of friends of friends!) It’s what I do best, cook and feed great gatherings of people, to create opportunities for love and relationships to grow naturally.
In my line of work I get to meet and build relationships with many different radio program sponsors. Many become more than advertisers, they become friends and supporters.
I’d like to give recognition to three such companies which have contributed generously to Point Hope, lending their voice to the voiceless; forgotten children.
