Do you get cranky in the heat?
I’m guilty. More than once I’ve “lost it” with my kids this summer. I know most of you hear my radio voice and think, “It’s so soft, so mellow, so nice…” Wellllll, it has been known to raise a few octaves and come out as a screech from time to time.
It takes quite a lot for me to anger, but I acknowledge that I go from zero to 60 pretty fast. I tell myself I’m getting better about this (please don’t interview my children,) and I have learned a trick or two.
For me, counting to 10 doesn’t do it. I need to give myself a time-out. If I don’t, my mouth gets going and it doesn’t stop. So, I shut it, and walk away.
Sometimes I go into the bathroom, lock the door, and give myself a lecture. I then pray.
Saying things in anger is mean and hurtful. It’s frightening for children AND adults. It rarely does anything to correct the behavior that you’ve found irritating in the first place, instead it conditions those you love to “walk on eggshells” lest they upset you.
Did you know the word discipline comes from discipulus, Latin for pupil? If it sounds like disciple, that’s no accident; to follow Jesus Christ. I can’t recount many times where I’ve read in the bible that Jesus screeched at his followers.
If the long hot summer has you a hair’s breath away from snapping, do something for yourself – you don’t have to ditch the kids! Go to a matinee movie in an air conditioned theater. Go to the library and read. Go to church and pray!
I’ll be praying for you!

70’s ROCK & ROMANCE CRUISE
Celebrity Summit | March 3-8, 2018
Are you a fan of 70’s rock? How ’bout romance?
After being aboard the inaugural 70’s Rock and Romance cruise last March, I’ve been asked back for a second year. I had such an amazing time surrounded by luxury, and a huge line-up of the superstars that launched my career in the world of soft rock. I can’t wait to do it again, this time with a whole NEW group of fabulous musicians!
Does the sound-track of your youth include Styx, America, Air Supply, Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan!), War, and Poco?
We’re gonna “knock down the old grey wall and be a part of it all!” with Badfinger!
Join me on March 3 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We’ll board the Celebrity Summit, sail the high seas, and stop off in Falmouth, Jamaica, and Georgetown, Grand Cayman Isle! It’s 5 very, very full days of non-stop musical performances in small, intimate venues, glorious sunsets, delicious food, games, parties, wine tasting, and other fun opportunities. You and your honey can even renew your wedding vows!
OH! Did I mention the private cocktail gathering with Yours Truly if you take advantage of the special “Delilah” booking rate!
Heard enough? BOOK NOW!
New Movie | All Saints
In theaters August 25th
ALL SAINTS is based on the inspiring true story of salesman-turned-pastor Michael Spurlock (John Corbett,) the tiny church he was ordered to shut down, and a group of refugees from Southeast Asia.
Together, they risked everything to plant seeds for a future that might just save them all.
After trading in his corporate sales career to become a pastor, Michael’s first assignment is All Saints, a quaint country church with a dozen members. It comes with a catch; he has to close the church doors for good and sell the prime piece of land on which it sits.
But when the church hesitantly begins welcoming Karen (kuh-REN) refugees from Burma who are farmers striving for a fresh start, the new pastor begins to doubt that closing the church is a good idea and starts to believe that much bigger things are possible.
Toiling alongside the Karen people, the congregation attempts to turn their fertile land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills and feed its newest members, jeopardizing Michael’s position in the church and with the church leaders.
This story shows what true faith in both people and God can do for us all.
Home Fires & SERVPRO® | What’s Your Plan?
It may seem a little early to talk about home fires while most of us are still cozying up to outdoor camp fires roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. We won’t be bundled up around the mantle as the snow (or rain) falls outside for some months, but practically speaking NOW is the time to prepare!
My friends and sponsors at SERVPRO® have reminded me of this, and prompted me to take some action this summer, BEFORE there is an emergency. I’m going to have my chimneys cleaned, check my smoke alarms, and refresh the family on what we should do to stay safe and out of harm’s way if there ever IS a house fire.
SERVPRO® has some advice for us when it comes to preventing home fires and what to do if one affects your home and family. Head over to my blog “What’s Your Plan” on Delilah.com and get some intel and info on this serious topic.
And if disaster should strike? Of course you’d call the folks at SERVPRO®, for a team that can help get you back on your feet. They’re the category leader in fire and water cleanup and restoration as well as folks you can count on to do the right thing.
I’m happy to tell you all that SERVPRO® is a sponsor of my annual Paint The Town, a community building restoration event taking place in Springfield, Missouri this September. So grateful for their support!
Follow them on FACEBOOK for more home fire preparedness tips!
I DO hope you’re able to keep your cool in the heat! Hold on to the fact that kids will be back in school SOON!!! (Did I sound a little too enthusiastic about that?)
In writing this, I’m called to remember that my children and my family are my disciples, it’s my job (and yours) to teach them by example.
Be well my friends, be at peace, and if the summer heat is beating you down, remember that This Too Shall Pass.
With love and gratitude for all that you bring to my life, and all that you let me share in yours,
