I don’t get out much these days. I find being on the farm a solid foundation to my tumultuous emotions and fragile heart, but last week was an exception.
I had committed, months back, to going to NYC in order to meet a man I had something in common with, and to do a podcast interview with him.
The man was Steven Twining, the tenth generation leader of a favorite sponsor, Twining’s Tea. I found him to be the exact opposite of what you might think a jacket wearing, tea sipping, Britt would be (whatever that is)… He was kind and charming and we were completely at ease with one another.
This made for a great conversation that you’ll get to eaves-drop on when the podcast is polished up by our beloved Producer Janey, who always takes care of Yours Truly, and in doing so, takes care of YOU too!
But back to the trip on which I took my Blessing. We hadn’t spent a lot of Ma Bear & Blessing time together of late, and my very mature, but still just 13 year old had been shouldering some big hurt herself.
We talked together, walked together, cried together, and planned together. She rested while I worked or came along with me on most occasions, and we went to not one, but two Broadway shows!
I was very very glad to see my home and hubby in the driveway when we returned, but it was a special trip, with a special Blessing, and I’m very glad we did it!
November Book Club | Wonder
R.J. Palicio & Lionsgate
5th grade is tough, especially at a new school, particularly if you’re different, and even more so if your name is Auggie Pullman. Born with facial differences, that up until now have prevented him from attending a mainstream school, Auggie’s journey as Beecher Prep’s newest 5th graders is nothing short of inspirational!
As he navigates his way through the ups and downs of being the new kid in school, Auggie’s kindhearted and compassionate personality outshines all external facial differences, and shows his new teachers, classmates, friends and family that it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Based on The New York Times bestselling book by R.J.Palicio, WONDER opens in theaters on November 17 and features Academy Award® winner Julia Roberts, Oscar® nominee Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay.

New Music | Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
The Rest of Our Life
On October 6, their 21st wedding anniversary, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw made a big announcement; a new baby! (of sorts)
Faith and Tim are unquestionably Country Music’s royal couple. They rule with grace, kindness, and compassion. I know, I’ve been a recipient of their gifts and feel very blessed. They’ve supported Point Hope and in doing so, hundreds of children, women, and families in need. Sorry for the gushing, I sincerely love them! But back to the baby…
The Rest of Our Life,
their first album together – ever!
After over two decades of marriage (to each other!) and three decades (each!) in the business of Country Music, this is their first album together. The Rest of Our Life is also the title to a romantic new single on the album, out on November 17th.
So if you get excited when Faith releases new music, and/or when Tim releases new music, you (like ME!) must be over-the-moon excited about their collaborative effort!!!

Comfort Food | Elsie’s Mac and Cheese
Oh my word has it been windy at the farm! The kids are blowing in from school, cold and hungry! Absolutely nothing does the trick this time of year better than (my) original comfort food, mac’n cheese!
And Elsie’s Mac and Cheese from Borden® Cheese is THE best! Warm, and smooth, and oh-so-cheesy, it’s like a big, delicious hug!
- 1½ cups Borden® Cheese Triple Cheddar Shreds
- 1 cup Borden® Cheese Colby & Monterey Jack Shreds
- 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni noodles
- 2 tbsp. Borden® butter
- 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup Borden® Vitamin D Milk
- 1 cup Borden® Half & Half
- ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper (or to taste)
- ½ tsp. black pepper
- Salt to taste
- PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Spray a 1½-quart casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. Combine cheeses in a medium bowl and set aside.
- COOK macaroni in boiling salted water according to package directions; drain well and set aside.
- MEANWHILE, melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Blend in flour, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbly. Gradually whisk in milk and half & half. Stir constantly, until mixture boils and thickens (about 2 to 3 minutes). Remove from heat and add cayenne and black peppers, and 2 cups of the reserved cheese mixture; stir until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
- STIR cooked macaroni into the sauce and season to taste. Place in the prepared casserole dish. Top with remaining ½ cup of cheese and dot with additional butter, if desired. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until heated through and lightly browned.
And don’t feed it all to the kids, us parents need some cheesy comfort too!
