Happy Valentine’s Day!
Or, as I like to call it, Happy Day-Before-My-Birthday Day! Had I arrived but one day earlier, you would all hear, “You’re listening to Valerie” when tuning in to my radio show. True story. My parents were set on it.
The day and the evening passed however, and I stubbornly stayed put. After all by hanging out for just a few more hours and making my arrival on the 15th, I still got heart decorations for every birthday through the age of 18, but managed to escape the naming. How Delilah was chosen instead is still a mystery.
Apparently one of my grandmother’s told a relative of my happy entry and the name my parents bestowed upon me. The relative made some remark about the newfangled names parents were giving their children these days… (Oh those crazy ’60’s!) when another commented that an older name couldn’t have been chosen, unless they (my parents) were to have picked the Queen of Sheba. And so, Sheba also stuck; it’s who all those birthday gifts and cards would be addressed to on the heart-shaped celebration from my dad’s parents ever more.
But I digress…
Today IS Valentine’s Day. A day to celebrate love. Love for that ONE special person, and love for all the other special people in your life. And a day to BE celebrated. Love is something that comes without cost and the more you give away, the more that returns to you.
I encourage you to never be stingy with your love. Love freely and openly. Share it as much as you can. With your partner, your family, your friends, and the world. It doesn’t have to come in the form of chocolates and roses. Smiles and understanding and grace work exceptionally well too.
February Book Club | Box of Butterflies
by Roma Downey
Once again, I’ve got a stack of my book club book to give away!
Write to me at D@Delilah.com and tell me why you’d like a copy of my friend, Roma Downey’s, (Yes, THAT Roma Downey, from Touched By An Angel) book, Box of Butterflies.
Is it because you could use a little lift in your life? Perhaps you’d like to gift it to someone that does?
Box of Butterflies is just that, a perfect read that will remind you, like the sight of a butterfly reminds Roma, that God is always near. Even when you are not physically or emotionally in a great place, He is with you and He will see you through.
It’s a beautifully composed volume of poems and prose meant to uplift and inspire.
Box of Butterflies is available March 6
I’d love to send you a copy, so again, write and tell me why you’d like one!
Food with Heart
How many of you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter at home? Well, don’t forget to use it today! Bake those cookies, make heart-shaped sandwiches for after-school snacks, heart-shaped french bread to go with your Valentine’s spaghetti or lasagna, the list could go on and on and on.
I bet you could come up with some very creative Food with Heart also!
New Movie | Sampson
In theaters Friday, February 16th
Sampson is based on the powerful, biblical epic of a champion chosen by God to deliver Israel.
A Hebrew with an unusual gift of strength must respond properly to the call of God in order to lead his people out of enslavement.
After his youthful ambition leads to a tragic marriage, his acts of revenge thrust him into direct conflict with the Philistine army.
As his brother mounts a tribal rebellion, only Samson’s relationship with a Philistine temptress (the name eludes me at this time…) and his final surrender – both to the Philistines and to God – turns imprisonment and blindness into final victory.
Dear Valentine | You’ve Got Mail!
Last week I told you about the sweet hand-made Valentine’s my first-born son used to make me ever year. Here are what a few of you replied:
The first year my husband I was married, we didn’t have money for Valentine’s Day. He went to his parents house, got a piece of paper and made me a card. He cut out a pic of flowers and candy and glued them in it. It was the best card I ever got. ~ Mishelle
Last year my 12 year old daughter was adopted 4 days before Valentine’s Day, which was the best early Valentine’s gift ever! She was spoiled rotten on our anniversary a few days ago and will certainly be spoiled tomorrow as well! ~ Melissa
My husband writes me letters every year. Long, hand written letters on lined paper, folded into a heart. Just like he use to pass to me on the school bus. ~ Heather
Thank you for sharing, everyone. I loved everyone’s responses!
The most fun I ever have on and around Valentine’s Day involves children.
My kids have always loved their red, heart shaped, pancakes in the morning. Delilah Jr. squealed in delight when she arrived at the breakfast table today, cards in hand, ready to pass out to her classmates!
I got to spend time with my grandchildren this weekend, and we loved on each other for hours, but definitely had time to shape red-liquorice into hearts. I love them all so stinkin’ much!
Kids love so freely and joyfully! Don’t you agree?
Today, and everyday, go forth and Love Someone!
P.S. – Go see Sampson this weekend; A timeless, hair-raising, cutting-edge story, now a major motion picture! 😉
