Spring has most definitely sprung in the corner of the world I call home. Everything is greening, swelling, budding, and bursting forth with effort and glory. And the weather has been crazy!!! Snow in the morning followed by blinding sun and birdsong in the afternoon without a trace of white!
Bestie, Dee Dee (yes, partner in crime of Steve Made who “tortures” us with homemade goodies!) captured a beautiful shot off her back deck last weekend of a magnificent rainbow after a magnificent display of nature’s fickle disposition. Rain. Sun. Rain. Sun. Rain. Sun. Repeat…
I used the photo on social media, with a beautiful quote by Maya Anglou. “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” It goes without saying that it received a very positive response and some of the comments were very touching:
Have always loved rainbows. Ever since I was a child. My grandmother adored them. So they always spark a memory of how much I was loved and how much I loved her. And Maya Angelou was such a marvelous poet. It all came together for me.
So thank you. You were a great rainbow for me today. Bless you.
Love this. After attending a family friend’s funeral service, a rainbow suddenly appeared in front of my house.
Thank you for being a rainbow on all those rough days I have. When I turn on the radio and listen to you in the evenings, I always feel at least a little bit better, and often realize that things aren’t nearly as bad as I felt they were. Thank you Delilah!
What does it mean to be a rainbow? Genesis 9:14-15 says, “Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.”
A covenant, a promise; hope. When you encounter someone who has a cloud of sadness, worry or pain over them, extend the promise of hope, a “this too shall pass” kind of hope. The world – their world – is not going to end.
Share a story, a cookie (I’m still swimming in Girl Scout goodness), a hug. Offer to babysit for a few hours, bring a meal, pray with them.
Also know that often those you meet will be hiding their clouds, so be kind, always. When we are successful at this, we never know how often we’ve been someone’s rainbow, but that promise of hope carries significant weight.
On Broadway | Waitress, the Musical
starring Katharine McPhee
On a trip to The Big Apple last year, a friend gifted me a trip to a Broadway play. We went to see Waitress, the Musical, a new production I hadn’t really heard much about.
Oh. My. Word! It hit every emotion a good production should. I laughed, I cried. I cried, I laughed. Emotions, like life, shifted and came at me side-ways. As the story unfolded I would think of friends and loved ones with whom each part would resonate. “So-and-So needs to see this,” I’d think, then So-and-So, and so on and so forth, until most of the names in my address book (if I kept one of those anymore) had come to mind. So basically, EVERYONE needs to see this show and I know everyone will LOVE it!
Joining the cast of Waitress for her Broadway debut is the amazing Katharine McPhee. (Smash, Scorpion) McPhee will be starring for a limited time, only from NOW until June 17!
Those that have followed McPhee will remember she was a runner-up on American Idol, Season 5. She went on to have several pop hits, like Over It, and Had it All. She’ll bring her pipes and acting chops to an already fabulous show and send it over the top!
Music for Waitress, the Musical was written by another crazy talented beautiful artist, Sara Bareilles. Seriously, incredible cast, incredible music. Do NOT miss this!
Remember: Katharine McPhee is part of the cast for a very limited time,
NOW through June 17!
Craft Idea | Giant Paper Flowers
I’ve been seeing these giant flowers pop up on my social media news feeds and thought them so beautiful! Their larger-than-life size makes an awesome statement at any event. I think they will be perfect to mix in with some of my other decor at an event I’m hosting in June.
A quick internet search turned up Youtube videos, Etsy shop template downloads and tutorials galore. Check out One Little Minute Blog’s Youtube tutorial, Catching Colorflies Etsy Shop downloads, The Craft Patch blog for ideas, templates, and tutorials.
It’s not difficult to figure out how, it’s just all about setting aside the time, getting a group together to have fun, and getting to work!
If I do this, I’ll be sure to share photos, but in the mean time, I’m curious if any of you have tried it? If you have, will you write to me? My email address is D@Delilah.com. Tell me about your experience and send photos!
There are two things I have in abundance these days – well, not entirely true, I have many, many things in abundance – but two things that most definitely have my attention: Girl Scout cookies and baby goats!
The first is because we have yet to distribute all the cookies my daughter sold during the cookie campaign. Supportive friends and family went overboard in their duties, like Producer Janey that ordered an entire case of GS Thin Mints! Do you know how difficult it is to pass a case of Thin Mints several times a day and not dive into one? I may or may not have been successful in avoiding them…
The second I don’t want to avoid; the deliciousness that comes in the package of a baby goat! They are soft and cuddly and sweet and 100% calorie free! We have one or two born each week these days and they are such a delight. I wish I could package and share the lovely feeling of holding and watching these little darlings. I would definitely share a bit with all of you!
Wishing you all rainbows in your cloudy days and sunshine in your lives. Be kind everyone, and Love Someone.
